Hi all ... well, apparently harsh NE winters have taken their toll on my 1996 318iC. I have a cracked rear spring.

I've talked to a bunch of people, but have gotten mixed answers. So, I'm posting here.

1. Are used springs OK or should I stick with new?
2. If used are OK, must they come from the exact model car? I have a 1996 318i convertible. Could I get springs from a 1996 318i hardtop? How about a 1996 328i convertible? Or a 1995 318i?
3. If new is the better route, where can you find factory springs for a good price?

Thanks!

You need to stick with springs that are designed for your car since the weight is different on those other models. Also, I suggest you replace your dampers at the same time as well to save on future labor costs.
