OBC Pixel problems

I recently purchased a 1996 328is. It's a great car, but I have pixel display problems with the OBC. I was reading another forum where there was a similar problem with the OBC in a 91' 850. Apparently the fix is to remove the OBC and check the solder joints, then resolder the joints that seem to be problematic. Is this a common problem, and is it as easy to remedy as mentioned in the other forum ?

i have had the same problem in my 328is, pulled the unit out cleaned the contacts. found the connectors arent soildered in but have a glue type material that had dried out. heated the connectors up placed them back into place. worked okay for a week or so, but then found that the driver IC was the problem....expensive part so im still in the process of tracking down another one or a substitue driver IC
