picked up a 318

[318intelligance]

i just picked up a 92 318i for 3500, which is a good price I hear and I'm new to the whole BMW scene.


I got the car for cheap because it has a few problems. they are as follows.


- small oil leak from front of engine
- differential housing leaking
- clunk noise from rear passenger side when i hit bumps
- cracked windshield
- broken inside door panel


those are the biggest problems that i've seen so far.

their are a few small ones that will probably get bigger as time goes by, but i'll worry about them after the big ones.

i think the oil is coming from front main bearing seal, i think the differential needs a new gasket, and the clunk noise i believe is worn busings.

anyone else experience these problems?

i'd like to find a used door panel if anyone knows where i can get one, please let me know.

i think thats about the jist of the big problems.

if anyone has any links to sites that would give me after market components that i could use to replace the current ones, please post them.

Welcome! Great price on a great car. You'll work out the problems ! Lots of supprt here, have you tried a search? Sorry I can't help, I just got mine awhile ago myself.

Sounds like a pretty good price. How many miles on it? I would worry about the engine seal leak first. Not too bad for the price again though. Check a junkyard for a new windshield if the crack is that bad. Ohio, not thinking the suspention has that much dry rot like desert areas.....Tucson, Texas. Take it to a local Midas and have them check the stuff out for free so they can give you a better idea. Once it is on the rack, use some engine gunk to spray the leak areas and track down where the leaks are coming from. Hope this helps. Any pics?
