Hey,
my car( 94, 325i ) came with power locks, but no remote. I want to buy a remote on ebay, but im not sure if the car has a reciever for it? does it come in standard or do i have to have an extra package for it?

you have to have the dealer or someone who knows how to install a receiver and such... my 1996 didn't have one either, but my 1997 does, wierd.

I have the same problem and did some research about it. The reciever does not come standard, you'd have to buy the whole thing. If you go to the dealer, it will cost more than $300 for the alarm and all that good stuff. You can find one on e-bay, they always have new ones that go for about $300, not sure maybe 250 or 350. They are expensive. You can call a junk yard and get the reciver only for probably about 100, then buy the remote (probably about $20 on e-bay) and configure it, either yourself or go to the dealer. If you wait long enough, someone may be selling a complete package on e-bay and it would be pretty easy to install. I'll look for a write up of the alarm install. Post the link when I find it.

hmm, the problem is, no BMW junk yards in Illinois (chicago) and $300 just to open my car with a remote, id rather get new rotors :) BTW you can probably buy a aftermarket system alot cheaper.

For the junkyards, you can go online and search for BMW recycled parts or something similar. I have found a few of them and they accept credit cards and ship out too. An aftermarket one would be a lot cheaper but I'd have to go to a shop that will install it because the connectors can be different. I tryed going to one and they wanted to install a cheap alarm for $150 total, screw them. Plus, I like the BMW remote. You can call me conservative but I want to keep the car looking like it is. What I mean by that is, I really like how they did it and don't want to change it, that is why I bought a radio that has the same design of the stock BMW radio and not something better for a cheaper price. But that's me.

Well I can sell you one [:)] I have a module, a manual for it and a remote - but no wiring harness. I think it may be pre-wired, if it says that in your car's manual or a trunk clip. There are two locations to install, generally - call up the dealer with ur VIN and he'll tell you where's yours. If it's under the left back seat - you don't need a wiring harness. If it's behind glovebox compartment up front - you do. I can sell you what I have for 70 bucks, but you have to read somewhere how to install properly and program the remote. Factory keyless entry unit has trunk sensor and a glass-breakage sensor, and operates via car horn, or an external siren (dip-switch selectable).

Another option is to get an aftermarket one.

Stellar, 184$ with window control:

mostwired what car was the alarm taken from? Are you sure it will work on a pre september '95? So you say you will include the main unit, one remote and a manual? How hard is it to program the remote yourself? Also, I know the radio goes behind the glove box (I took it off and looked) do you know where I can get the wiring harness? Thanks in advance.

Mine, OEM, was taken off 1994 540i, in working condition. The BMW part # is 90 88 1 600 309 for the main unit, and 82 11 1 467 015 for the remote. Most new BMW dealers won't recognize the part #, as their record system probably doesn't deal with stuff this old. I know that 540 had a wiring harness built-in, hence I couldn't take it off - but I have seen exact same units hooked up to pre-96 3-series. I suggest you look for a harness before you get this unit - 'cause it may be totally useless without it!

Also note that harness from newer (96+) keyless entry systems is different, as I have found out, and doesn't fit the 22-pin male connector on my unit. However, on the car's side - it's the same 12-pin connector for all 92+ cars.

The unit looks exactly like:

I think I'd just look for one that is from an e36 because the harness will probably be impossible to find. Thanks anyway.

If you lock one of your front doors while the others are closed and all of them lock and it says that the car is prewired for a BMW alarm in the trunk then it will lock/unlock the doors but I don't about the windows.

Are you telling me that my 92" 352I has a place that i can just plug in this (http://www.autowerks.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=21734&cat=108&page=2) harness and my doors and windows will be automaticly contolled with a remote? Also the lights will flash to indicate it's locked and unlocked?
Yup. There is such a magic place [:)]

Disclaimer: Your car must be pre-wired for the alarm system. Usually, it is indicated in the trunk left side wall by a decal - PREWIRED.
