Hello everyone,

I need to change the power steering fluid in my BMW E34 525 M50 1994. So I ordered the LEMFÖRDER 10631 02 power steering reservoir (from Autodoc) (BMW 32411097164).

So far I always use ATF oil (Fuchs Titan ATF 4000), because the original reservoir cap was stamped "ATF OIL ONLY" from the beginning.

But when I received the LEMFÖRDER 10631 02, I saw that the cap was labeled "ONLY CHF11S".

The LEMFÖRDER 10631 02 reservoir is identical to the original reservoir; the only difference is a stamp on the cap.

But I know there's a filter element inside the reservoir, it is a kind of plastic strainer.

I wondered: what if the strainer flow capacity corresponds to the intended oil viscosity → CHF11S ?!

ATF oil is thicker and more viscous (at 40°C it's 36.4 mm²/s), but CHF11S (PENTOSIN) oil is thinner (at 40°C it's 18.7 mm²/s).

Question:
‑ Can I use the LEMFÖRDER reservoir with ATF oil, even though its cover says "ONLY CHF11S"?
‑ Is the this reservoir compatible with both types of oil?

If the reservoir isn't compatible with bothtypes of oils, i.e., if it's intended for use only with CHF11S oil, which is thinner, so the thicker ATF oil won't easily pass through the strainer.

Because an inadequate strainer will restrict flow and cause a pressure drop at the pump's suction. Thick oil has greater resistance to flow than thin oil.

As a result, the amount of oil entering the pump will be lower, which will lead to other problems.

Thank you in advance for your advice and suggestions!

Sincerely,
Jalal
