Power Steering

MY power steering is leaking. Anyone else have a problem like this or know how I could fix it?

I am looking at mine right now, power steering hose on mine it looks like. Just had it on a lift and looks like it is the hose, not the pump. The hose is around....well...30 bucks on Ebay for the lower one. Get it on a lift or jack it up and spray it off so you can trace the leak. Is your car making a loud noise on turns when you start it up? Please check the power steering fluid as well. On the drivers side of the engine. Top it off until you trace the leak. Hopefully we can work together on this issue. We have the same one. My leak seems to have slowed. They do make power steering leak sealer. Checking the leaks until then. Get a piece of cardboard and track the leak. Hope this helps.

I know the pump is OK on mine, looks like a hose problem. Let me know how it goes with yours so we can hook each other up.

Yeah when we took my engine apart a couple weekends back we noticed it was leaking from a hose. I'm not sure which one it was though. I would almost put money on the fact that it's the same hose on both of our cars. You said the lower hose but I know there's more than one. You're not talking about the hose that has aluminum on it (the make shift cooler) are you? Lemme know, I'll jack it up tomorrow and see what I can find.

By the way, when I first bought the car the power steering was very low and I put fluid in it (with stop leak) and it worked beautifully. It's not a year later so maybe I just need to top it off again. Funny thing is, I still have the same bottle in my trunk haha

Yes, the fail point is usually the fitting on the one with the elbow, that goes into the poser steering pump. Spray the bottom of the pump and see if it is leaking from there. DO NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP YET. Save money and check the hose. I will hook us up together and we can fix the same problem. I might try the stop leak if it continues. That stuf really works.....well....most of the time.....unless it is on a BMW radiator, been there, done that.

Yeah like I said I used the power steering fluid with stop leak in it and it's worked for about a year. I asked a guy who works on BMWs a lot and he says that the hose with the aluminum make-shift-cooler on it is the hose that typically fails

I have the same leak, P.O. says it slows in colder temps. I have to fix ABS, driver window guides, headlights-maybe bulbs first-it's getting dark much earlier now!, and upgrade to a "photo-cell phone" first. I'll add a little fluid every few days. Who thought of putting fluid reservoir there!!
I really think engineers should spend some time in their models!

Oh they did. BMW doesn't want people putting fluid in there because it's a closed system. In other words it should never need any fluid so they make sure people can't put any in but just in case you need to, they have it sort of available.
