The fan delete kit comes with an 80 degree thermostat. I have to replace mine anyway it is stuck open and the car won't heat up unless you just let it idle. My question is to the people with the mod does your car heat up and to what extent? I don't want to drive in 20 degree weather without a heater.

i had a friend do the fan delete on his 2.5L and in traffic the coolant would go towards redline....so he'd have to pull over.

its a stupid mod that he got rid of, and considering u have an m3 (from the look of your username - if u do try posting in the m3 section) it'd heat up even faster, and should it
overheat, well its just not worth it.

Bahn's right - and on an M, the engines are MUCH more sensitive to changes, including temperature.

But to answer your question - it shouldnt overheat if its done right. It's just like a FWD car with the temperature sensor that controls the fans. You really shouldn't have any problems.

Sorry the username is confusing. I have a 93 325is. I was going to get the fan delete kit from understeer.com It has a cooler thermostat, lower cooling temp switch, and redline water wetter. If you buy the kit from all the post I have read nobody has overheated their car. Some people in hot climates are putting on slimline electric fans. It is supposed to be a dyno proven 6-8 h.p. Also most people change out the under drive pullies at the same time and all the post I have read talked about what a differance the two mods have made. I am just worried that with a lower thermostat that my car's heater won't heat enough in the winter months.

80 degrees isnt that low of a thermostat - it's what is stock on E30's, and you figure 80 degrees Celsius = 176 degrees Fahrenheit...so its not exactly cold.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am going to order the fan delete kit and maybe update the water pump also check to see if the thermostat housing is aluminum or not yet. I'll have to do the pullies later I still have to have the struts put on. and a few other things. I have parts all over the garage for the car and no time to put them on.
