I recently bought a '06 330i in black. 3 days later i found a series of small scratches on the side of the door when i came back. ( i guess some dumbass flew open his door at 60mph while it was parked so it hit mines) anyway, i tried using the gs27 scratch remover a few times but it didnt completely remove the scratches. What do you guys suggest i do? Should i take it to the dealer or a bodyshop place. I know they will charge the Sh*t out of me. Do you guys know any product or meathod i can do to remove small scratches? Thank You.

You have to be extremely careful with black because you can easily do more damage than good. Almost all Dealers have specialists who visit Dealerships regularly to take care of problems like yours. Check with your Dealer to find out who they use, and try to schedule an appointment with the guy without Dealership involvement.

Run your fingernail over the scratch to determine if it has penetrated the clear coat. If it hasn't, you are literally talking about a five minute job which shouldn't cost you more than $20. If it has he may have to do some wet sanding to minimize the damage, so it could cost you a few dollars more. In either case you shouldn't be talking about a lot of money.

Zeratul: The franchise in MD is called "Colors on Parade." I deal directly with the technician and most of my touchups are under $75. If you get the Dealer involved, they'll want to get paid for doing nothing.

Good luck.

Zeratul, you could purchase an auto sharpening pen in your car's paint color and fill in the scratches...then let it dry and some good buffing with the GS-27 Scratch Remover should make it look seemless. If you want some more info on the process, just post here and I'll go into more detail. It won't cost you more than $20 and it may just solve your paint issue. Sorry to hear about the jerk who hit your car.

Paint Pen...

Yes... would it be possible to tell me where i can purchase a pen like this... i already have the GS27 cream but not the pen. BTW i tried to buy a paint pen from autozone but when i told them what model/year my car was they said that '05/'06 didnt come out yet so they couldnt get me the right pen for my car. Anyway i would appreciate it if u can gimme a link or some info on the right pen to use for the '06 330i metallic black. Thanks a lot.

I've never used the product but Pep Boys carries a polish designed for different car colors, and with the polish you get a matching paint pencil. And I know that black is one of the polish colors they carry.

Here is the DIY on how to do it: http://www.diynet.com/diy/diy_kits/article/0,2019,DIY_13787_3083739,00.html

You can pick up the auto sharpening pen (or touch-up bottle if you want) from:
http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
You have to find out the color code of your car's paint before you order the auto touch-up pen.

Here is what you need to do more specifically:

-If the scratches are not too deep, you do not have to use any spot putty or primer and the explanation below is based on this assumption.

1.) Use the GS-27 Scratch Remover to fill in the scratches as much as you can.

2.) Apply the touch-up paint in very thin, even coats, and let it thoroughly dry.

3.) Wet-sand the area after it has fully dried...you can pickup wet sand paper from KMart, Target, etc.

4.) Wash the car and apply a glaze or wax product to the area (and probably to the whole car if you are going to use wax, to make the paint look nice and shiny and even all over).

so many steps...

so since my scratches arent so deep i guess i should only buy the pen and leave out the primer and clearcoat? is that correct?

oh and one more thing... what the hell is wet-sand paper? iv only heard of sand paper in my life. Is wet sand paper some special stuff and this wont scratch my car right? what is the proper name i want to buy it on the net. Thanks

You have a brand new car and you are considering repairs that I wouldn't do on a five year old car. Any professional with an orbital buffer and some polish or maybe compound will make your car look perfect in about two minutes. If you can't find the pro touch-up guy used by your Dealer, use a good local detailer. I can't believe that anyone would charge you more than $25 for the repair.

I would use a professional detailer as well. And yes, leave out the primer and clearcoat. Read my post again, I stated you can get wet sand paper from anywhere...it is soft and spongy and you just dip it in water and then sand away.
