secondary airpump bypass

Is there any way to eliminate or bypass the secondary airpump, and not have the CEL come on? Thanks, Mike.

I should have mentioned that my pump is seized and to replace it and the valve associated with it was quoted at $700. I have been told that all this pump does is lean out the exhaust for the first minute or so on cold startup, and running without it should not harm anything. I have not noticed any change at all in performance, and it still passes aircare.

Check online for the pump at $254 and the control valve for $95. You could replace yourself. There is also an electric solenoid valve that applies vacuum to the control valve to open or close the valve. My pump and control valve have both failed and it appears that exhaust is backing up through the pump and escaping out the pump intake into the engine compartment. I dont think this is a good thing. The dealer did not not have any good advice other than bring the car in. I think that I will at least replace the control valve to stop the exhaust from backing up. I dont have a check-engine light yet.
