Sporadic Idle RPM?

Car is turned on: 1.5rpm to 2.0rpm.

After 15 minutes: drop to .5 then go up to 2 and back to .5 continiously.

While driving: When I go from a gear to neutral and ride it, one in ten times or so.

After driving: The car seems to idle fine, even when left to idle for an extended period of time.

Additional Notes: Inspection panel light is on at start but then goes off after a few seconds.

SRS light flashes initially then stays on.

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? I'm worried that it's not safe to be driven like this, I don't want to do any additional harm. Beyond this, however, it drives fine. I have two other questions which may possibly be related to this that I'm also posting.

I had something similar recently although maybe not exactly the same. I cleaned the ICV (idle control valve) which was a bit awkward to get out. This helped a bit but the problem was still there. Then I removed the MAFS (airflow sensor) and found that the filaments inside looked dodgy. Bought a 2nd-hand one from http://www.automend.com/bmbitz/parts.htm which cost £50 +vat. Fitted it and problem solved. From reading up on this problem, the other thing that could influence it is the O2 sensor.
