I was wondering if anyone supercharged a 318. What kind of supercharger did you use? How was the mpg? Was there a huge difference? Pros and Cons? Any info would be helpful.
[:D] thanks,

i'm driving a Downing/Atlanta s/c'd Z3 1.9. the OBC used to say about 26-29 mpg before the install, now it says 23-26 ish. by actual math the OBC was a little high before, so i assume it still is? most of the time the engine is operating in a vacuum condition due to the Downing/Atlanta systems' bypass. it allows economical non boost operation at light throttle, but the boost is right there at the tips of your toes. yes, big difference! i can pass without downshifting and waiting for the rubber band to wind up. it just starts pulling like you would think it should. i just installed a vacuum/boost gauge on the windshield frame pillar. i was kinda surprised at how much of the time it's in vacuum, but like i said, the boost is right there when you want it. the gauge says almost 9 psi when i'm into it hard, then back to 20" of vacuum to cruise. about the only con is that i won't be filling up at the goat piss pump anymore. premium is recommended from here on. you can check out the unit that Downing/Atlanta uses at Eaton's website, i think it's the 62 size.

yeah, it cost a little more, but i'm worth it! the "bit" more power is over 50% of the factory rating. not to mention Shawn Fogg's check valve upgrade that has the 7psi system now making 10psi! so how is everybody's CAI (hot air intake) doing? i'll bet you can really feel the power? ssshhhhh! don't tell anybody, but i'm thinking about a little spray, a piggy-back computer and some dyno tuning.

if it weren't for the emission laws, i might have done a 351 stroked to 427 with cleveland heads. anybody ever come up against a Monster Motorsport Miata with a 5.0?

if it was me i would just drop an LS1 in there and get real power
I love the LS1 also for cheap MX and cheap parts.....would not be a cheap transplant though......imagine though....330 HP V8 with a A4 trans and high stall Yank converter....."Tool time grunt"

Actually, some web site is trying it....

Wonder if they will ever finish it.

needless to say this is the first time i have read this thread otherwise i would have answered it eariler....go to www.downingatlanta.com and look at theres. The eaton SC they use has the best preformance of any SC for our type of engine. sounds great and it performs great too. i would also rec. getting a cold air intake also, you have to custom make it though.....if you want to see what a Eaton SC looks with the intake you can see mine at:
