Throwout Bearing on a 5-speed

A local BMW mechanic told me I need to replace the throwout bearing to make a whining noise go away that is present whenever the clutch is disengaged, does anyone know about this or had it done, cost, etc?
He also said I should have a new clutch kit put in while the tranny is out of the car... it feels fine to me and it only has 70K on it, does that sound right?
Thanks for any help

It does sound legit. The noise you describe can be the throwout bearing and to replace it the transmission will have to be droped. To do all that work it would be wise to replace the clutch and pilot bearing at the same time. But if your clutch feels fine and you dont want to fork up the cash and you can live with the noise, just wait for the install.
