I have a 2003 325i with 5 speed, HK, Sport pkg, leather. The dealers are trying to rape me on a trade-in so I would like to sell it myself. Can I get some tips on how to sell it? Thanks.

Sadly, you are trying to sell an "old" model. 9/10 dealers will rape you on a trade in, but trading in a discontinued model is just really, really hard. Of course it can be done, but you just have to be willing to take a huge loss. It depends on how much you hate the car you are trading in, and how bad you want the new model.

You can try your local Auto Trader, or large newspaper, Craigslist and Ebay. We have bought and sold 3 cars on Ebay, but the majority of Ebayers do want a "bargain".

Good Luck.

P.S.

are you trading in (up :) to an E90??? [:p]

Visual appeal is big if you are selling the car yourself. Have it detailed, or detail it yourself, make it look like new. Wax, carpet shampoo, sidewall treatment, clean under the hood, etc.

I would go with Kirby, make it look as good as possible even if you have to spend $200 getting it detailed.
I sold a Porsche I used to have on Autotrader.com The ad ran for a long time and you have photographs so hopefully people looking at your car are interested before they see it in person.
The E46 my be an old shape now but you should still be able to get a good price
Good Luck.
