Two "noise" questions

These might be newbie questions, but here goes. I recently purchased a '96 328i. Everything is great, but:

Every now and then, maybe every other day or so I hear "Beep Beep Beep" from the front dash as I'm driving. Always three beeps, about one second apart. It is not the same sound as the "You've exceeded your speed limit" sound from the OBC. I've heard it on the highway, in town, fast, slow, you name it. Is my car trying to tell me something????

And this next question probably is a true newbie question, but when I shut off my car, what makes the big "ticking" noise (sounds like a hyperactive clock) for the next few minutes?

Thanks, look forward to some insight.

Don't know about the hyperactive clock but the beeps could be either the car telling you that the temp has gone below 38 degrees F or you have the memo thing on. The next time you get into the car, look for any symbols that represent sound waves or something next to the time or the next time it beeps, it should be X hours 59 minutes. Thise feature is there so that you don't miss news on the radio that are on at X hours 00 minutes. I think it beeps 15 or so seconds before the next hour. TO disable that I think the button is called memo or osmething similar to that. The hyperactive clock sounds very familiar but nothing on the mind right now.

hyperactive clock noise is coming from the exhaust pipes and catalyc converter because it is hot and it makes that noise while is cooling down, many cars do that.
Yes, that's exactly what I thought it was but couldn't remember. My dad's avalon does the same thing everytime it cools but I never heard the 325i do it, oh well.

Yes, your car is warning you of potentially slippery road conditions as the temperature has fallen bellow 37F

Thanks for the input!

The three beeps thing is because of the "memo" feature being turned on, and yes it comes on about 15 seconds before the hour. There is also a beep for temp going down to 37 degrees (I live in CO so I hear that one a lot lately), but that is a different beep, and the OCB lights up and displays the temp. So I was aware of that one.

Thanks again,
