hey i have a 328i with 91,xxx miles on it and i was wondering how much it costs to replace the water pump and is it easy? i have a manual which tells one how to do it and a couple friends who are good at mechanics, do you think i could pull it off myself with one of them? or should i just buy the pump and take it to a mechanic to get fixed.

i dont know if this is the right time, but my friend frolf had around 100k on his i believe when his water pump failed while he was driving it and effed up his car.

what do you guys think?

mine was a metal impellar as well. do you know if your impeller is plastic or metal? (and if it is plastic is it a NEW one, not the crappy one that came from the factory?)

it's definitely a good idea to replace the water pump if you're still running with the original factory one at 91k miles. in fact most bmw tuners will recommend replacing the water pump @60k miles along with the thermostat and thermostat housing. both of these have a tendency to fail and cause costly damages to the e36. BTW it really doesn't matter if you have the oem plastic or metal water pump as they both fail but in different ways. my 3 series still has the original water pump but i am going to take it in to have it replacewith a metal one.
