Hey guys/gals (?)

I had a buddy from Canada visiting over the weekend, I let him dive my 93 325is (only 72k miles), we were driving around Seattle, He has never driven a bimmer before, we were comming up on a right hand turn, he was in 2nd, for some reason he down shifted to 1st gear (at @ 20mph) the rpms shot up hella and it was redlined for @ 3 second, I was like Holly crap dude! what are you doin!!!
he said redline snuck up on him...... well not thinking anything about it, we pulled back into the garage, I wased my car, then jumped back on the freeway, after 5 minutes of driving my temp gauge shot up all the way, the check coolant light came on, no steam yet, I was on I-90 bridge with no exit for @ 1 mile, hit the exit, got off and stopped, (this is all @ 3am saturday night) engine did NOT die but there was steam comming from the hood, I popped it open and there was coolant everywhere! but the coolant res. was not fully empty... I had it towed home, the next day, I put some water in it and it started up fine.... Im hopeing it is a gasket of some sort... any clues? head gasket :(? I am sad now, but my bicycle is getting use !

any ideas? thx all

Thanks [headbang]

I hope it will be too, when i started it up, i did not drive it, but let it run for @ 2 minutes....... When i take it in, im going to have them check for warping, My e30's cracked its head, had to get it rubuilt, this is just bringing back bad memories... i was freaking out hella, e30 M20 cost approx.$4200 to rebuild, i cant even imagine what the M50 will cost (cries for a minute) If it comes down to having to rebuild the M50 I may just purchase an engine from http://www.bavengine.com/ $4,688 for their M50 performance engine.

looking on the bright side, you could always get a US S52 and throw that in there, a friend of mine converted his S52 back to obd1 and did a couple of things an now its at or above 295bhp. i think you could find an S52 w/ 20-30k on it for under $3200

$3200?!? Hrmmmm well i hope it is just a radiator hose, My girlfriend would Kill me if i spent a couple grand.............but if it requires a engine rebuild, i will consider the engine swap '93 is OBDI so that is good :) I will let you all know how it goes, thanks for the replies... know where one could find an engine for a decent price?

Hey Guy,
Did have a rough Idle? If you're idling fine, it's most likely something simple. At the most a valve job. I actually redlined mine for not even a second (missed fifth while racing someone; I could have shot myself for that), and mine was fine for a while, but then the engine would idle rough after I depressed the clutch to drift. Most people have told me that it's something to do with timing, and that redlining these engines will only have two major effects; 1) timing / misfire 2) Fried valves Good luck. I'll be hoping that it's radiator related. Take Care; and kick your friend's ass!!! [boxface]
