WOW Tune up + Chip = Completely different car

#1
I've had my 1992 325i for about 8 months now. It pretty much just sat in my yard all summer since i dont get my license till nov. 10th. Since its getting near my driving test i thought i'd give the bimmer a tune up and get a chip for it and fix all the little things wrong with it before i start driving it around all the time.

I got an AC Schnitzer chip off of ebay and put it in the DME. Changed fuel filter, air filter, oil filter, cabin filter, etc.. New Mobile 1 synthetic oil, flush radiator.. Tightened the cable on my gas pedal (it was suprisingly loose). I finished up by getting a new valve cover gasket set and changing all the spark plugs to Bost +4 Platinum.

I did this all without driving it throught the whole week. After the battery finsihed charging tonight me and my dad took it out for a test run and it was AWESOME. The car is so much faster now its not even funny, it feels so light and quick.

I just thought id share this experience with you all. I had no idea what my car was capable of until i took my time and cleaned it and took really good care of it.

Great Job.... might want to re-think the Bosch Platinum +4

I know that on the e39 (at least and many e36m3's) that the =4 have a tendency to "burn" up in the well or back out significantly... if they back out... not too big a deal... have to re-tighten and deal... if the burn up, you hae chunks of metal going into the engine.... real bad

As much as it pains me to say this... stick with the eom plugs

I agree with sticking to the OEM plugs. My experience with Bosch +4 plugs wasn't fun. It didn't get as far as a complete incineration but the tips looked really burnt for only a month old.

Apparently these plugs run too hot for the M50 engine, in my case causing rough idle, stalls and loss of performance.

Just a heads up :)

Thanks for all the info. I use some good anti-seize compound on all the plugs and used a torque wrench to tighten them to specification however I will take a look at them after driving for a week to make sure they're working good.

I thought the Bosch would be a good bet because they seem to be a prety good manufacturer of auto parts plus they said on the box: "If you cant feel a difference, we'll buy you new plugs", which sounded pretty promising :p

yes, stock plugs work best imho.i've had acouple dme's fry because of the +4 plugs.also,ACS doesn't make chips.sometimes ppl flash burn a dinan or AA chip(or just a diffrent program altogether) onto a blank, then sell them on ebay.as long as the car's running fine,it SHOULD be all good.

you know what, thanks for that bit of info because ever since i put the bosch plat4 in my maxima it has been running real shitty!!!stuttering alot and loss of power...when i took them out they were all burnt up....i put the nissan stock ones in and runs a little better but i think there might be some biits of medal still in there????when i tuned my bimmer I went straight stock...the only way to go[thumb] ..in my opinion
