Hello,

Im new to the forum I have a 318i M reg manual. I have a problem with my BMW. When I pull away in first gear fast my car is doing a kangroo jump and is becomming very dangerous. But when I pull away slowly the car seems fine. Im not pulling away really fast at all the car seems to be hopping for about 5 seconds, then when I put it into 2nd it calms down??

Any ideas people??

Thanks in advance

hey Russ, welcome to BMWBoard [:)] what do you mean by kangroo jump? are you getting the rear wheels to hop up and down when they spin or someting? if so, then your rear shocks are done. if you could explain your problem some more we would all love to help you out.

Sorry I probably did not explain myself fully. What I mean by kangaroo jumping is that is seems to be stuttering while im trying to pull away. I have to foot full on the accelerator and its like someone is switching the on off switch on and off while im going along. But when I change to second it seems better.

are you kidding..that would be your traction control trying to make your tires quit spinning.if you have the gas pedal nailed down and letting out the clutch.

Otherwise known as the ASC. Auto Skid Control. You probably have a button in front of the shifter and when you depress the button, the golden triangle appears on the dashboard.

Anytime you want to race, push the button to turn off the ASC.

sounds like you have traction control enabled (which is default for a reason) if you want to rock a fast start, hold the button until the little triangle thing stays on

It almost sounds like you starting in third gear and jumping timing gears. But I'm sure thats not it unless you JUST started driving stick.

Timing gears?? Third gear??

Let us know exactly what you are talking about so I’m not too quick to jump at this insane response to his problem....

I'm sorry but this happens way too often.
