17" Rims rubbing on the back Fenders.

Ok. Am pissed. Where's all those guys that told me 17" would fit perfect on my 92 325I? Ok. Bought an Alba 17" 700 Edge size 17 x 7.5 (245/45/17) And men. The tires kept rubbing against my Back fenders. I could not go over a 25Cent quarter without hearing and feeling the rubbing. I finally went and bought a "Spring Extenders" and put it in and everything was somewhat ok. The suspension on the back got a little stiff but if that's the price i'll pay to have this rims on i will. Is there anything that i can do except those extends to have this rims fit ok. I'll tell you though, if i ever put 1 or 2 people in the back, i'll probably hear and feel the rubbing again. Is this normal? Does everyone in here that has a 17" rim have this problem or is it just me?

i got 17x7.5 rims...however the tire size u should have gotten is 225/45/17...perfect fit...i dunno who told 245/45/17, but almost everyone here i've seen said 225's....and thats what most websites recommend.....if u can get that size on there, u'll love the way they fit...with no rubbing

hmm it just hit me, but i think i was wrong....isn't the first number the width of the tire? i dunno....but i have 17x7.5 rims with 225/45/17 rims, and i have nothing rubbing...so i dunno

are you lowered any? i had 17x9 w/245/45/17's in the back way back when with absolutely no rubbing at all.this was just with the oem sport package suspension.

flyinH to answer your question, i don't think the car is lowered. However, it sure do look like it. Even before i put on the rims. However, After buring almost $1600 on this rims and tires, i don't think i need to burn more. I'll probably just drive it till the back tires explode or something. And you know what hurts the most, i got the most expensive tires. Micheline or however you spell it.
However thanks guys for your recomendations.

I heard that on some BMW's you can inflate your shocks to go up or some bullcrap like that. I heard this at my local "Advance auto shop". However, they don't know how to figure out if my car has the feature. does anyone here know?

see if you can get your rear quarters(fenders) rolled.i had to do this when i went to 235/35/19 in the back.DO NOT keep driving with the rear scraping against the sidewall of your rear tires..I'm sure the last thing you need to do is have a blowout going down the highway with acouple of friends in the car.you might have to call alot of local bodyshops to see which one will actually do it. there is an inner lip that bends toward the tire itself,this is what has to be rolled back more for proper clearance.i did it the ghetto way with a hammer(massive electrical tape covering the claw end) and a heatgun.

flyinH, i think your right men. Safety is what's important here. I wouldn't want a friend to have me in my car knowing that it's dangerous and shit like that. I think your right about the inner claw thing your talking about. If i can get that bent, i think the car would be great. How can i do this without scratching the hell outa my paint on the outa part of the fender? how did you do your? How did a Heatgun do this? Brotha Help me!!!!!!!!! .

17x7.5 will fit fine on your car.

Steven Dinan actually recommends a 17 inch wheel with on all the car he tunes... and 17x8.5/17x9 is supposedly the money size for track racing on an e36...

the problem is the 245/45/17 tire... that's waaaay to big for a 7.5 wide tire.... and it's too big for the e36 rear... it may fit up front..

standard size is 235/40/17 on a 17x8 wheel... as you can see you're too wide and too tall... anything bigger and you're going to have the possiblity of rubbing.. only solution is to change the tire size.. a 245/40/17 may fit with mroe negative camber.. or some fender rolling... or changing to a 235/45/17... but even that might rub in the rear because it's higher... I hate to break it to you.. but unless those same guys told you to buy those 245/45/17 tires.. the problem was your fault.. not theirs.. cause they were right about the 17 inch wheels being "perfect"...

either way.. a 245 tire on a 7.5 wheel is too large.. I don't think that's even very safe.. it's like putting an over-inflated balloon on the wheel..

Buy or borrow an aluminum bat. Either you or a friend insert the bat between the fender lip and the tire. Roll the car forward or backward to flatten the flares lip without damaging the paint.[?|]

I had rubbing with my 18" 225x40x8.5's and the fender's lips were already flattened by a previous owner/leasee. Installed new Bilstien sport shocks. Has helped. But then i don't often carry additional people in the back seat. [^]

I've heard people use wooden bats... you can probably use either or.. but you probably need to be more careful with aluminum bats... and a hair dryer.. if it's not hot enough outside otherwise you risk cracking the paint.. but I think he may be suffering from wheel well rubbing as well.. that I don't know how to fix.. you may want to email [email protected] and ask how to solve your problems...
