Dealer wants 280 for a regulator installed in my 318ti. How tough is it to do this at home. The part is 100. I am very happy with my 318ti would recommend to anyone. I have had it for 8 years and have 135k on it.

from what i saw when i had my door panel off the other day its riveted on, just drill them out and replace, is the regulator dead, because if the window has dropped it might be the window seal i had the problem the other week replaced the seal and straightened the regulator and replaced the white clips and all is good

I"ve replaced the regulator and it is not that easy. The rivets has a steel core which make "just drilling them out" a bit difficult. If you have a decent drill and a set of cobalt bits you can do it. Drilling them out is the easy part. When you put the new regulator in place you must either re-rivet the thing in place or use a bolt with a nut. It is a very small space to put a bolt and nut on, a cherry max rivet would be ideal, if you have the equipment. Then there is the matter of aligning it so it works. This is done by putting it on, then testing, if you use a nut and bolt, it is just a matter of taking them out and repositioning the motor-if you riveted it then your drilling. I'm not saying it's impossible, it just not an easy job. There is more than meets the eye. I did it (which meens anybody can) but if I have to do it again I'm taking in to let somebody else deal with it. Hope this helps.
