318i rear door lock problems - Advice Sought!

My wife drives a 318i, and the passenger side rear door lock does not lock/unlock itself with either the key fob or the lock/unlock button inside the car. You can manually pull the door lock up and the door will open, or you can manually push the lock down and it will lock the door. Does anyone has a suggestion as to where I should start my investigation into what may be the problem?

ANy help you can give would be appreciated.

there is a little electrical motor that works the lock. this little fellow is most obviously gone. i had the same thing some weeks ago. if all doors but the one work fine, get that motor replaced and you´re fine.

with me it was 40 bucks i guess. but that was in euro. i am sorry but i am not familiar with the US pricing
