Here is the deal-
I'm new to the whole BMW world, but currently have the opportunity to buy a 1996 318ti. I am deffinately interested. What things should I look for and/or avoid. What are historic problem areas etc. Any info anyone has would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

How much is the person/dealer asking?? I am not sure what to look out for except for the normal stuff. Others will be able to further answer your question.

just look for the basic things as already said. check the servicing, overall appearance, run a carfax, all that you know. the compacts do not have any major flaws i know of. it´s a decent car and reliable.

I know the difference between a 4 and a 6. I am specifically asking about a 318ti. If you have any useful info. I would appreciate it, otherwise keep your comments to yourself.

hey buddy....easy now.

he was making a proposal! no need to punk around. if you treat the members bad, they will be bad to you remember that. he was just trying to show up other possibilities.

My friend owns a 95 318ti and no problems in specific, just keep your eyes out for the normal stuff like everyone else suggested.

As for the 4 vs 6 dispute, I bought a 318i for two reasons. First off it would cost me an extra $3000-8000 CND in my area for a 325. Second it would cost me an extra $1200 CND a year on insurance for the 325. Another reason, not one of mine, would be gas milage. So there are reasons to go with a 4 instead of a 6 for some people. The 318 is still a very good car and drives very tight.
