I am considering a new car and wondering what people think. I want to spend about 9-12k. Should I save a few thousand and get a 94-95 325 or fork out a little more for a 96-97 328? I know the 328 has a little more torque but I'm wondering what difference that makes. I have only driven a 89 325 and a 01 330 so i'm picturing the performance being between those two. Also, is the IS package a lot more fun than the I package?

well with the E36's you can have an IS car without the sport package. kind of weird right? both motors are very very strong. Though you get almost the same horsepower from either engine (189 v. 190) the torque is a lot different, (192ish or something v. 206) just some things to think about. all in all the M50 motor is pretty kick ass. I personally would go with the 328.

In general an I is a 4-door and IS is a 2 door (not neccessarily sport edition). This doesn't alway hold true in the states, you will see I 2-doors.

If your getting an automatic, I advise the 328 but I know many people are very happy with their 5-speed 325's

I went 328 and am very pleased with the performance as stock. You should really try both to know for sure before buying.
