Hi Guys

I have the subject car and have driven for about 170,000 Km todate. Now it has the following problems:

I am in UAE where the temprature zone now a days is 24 degrees. In the early strat of the engine the idol is very rough. This never use to happen in the recent past.

Secondly the raditor from its top have developed a small hair line leakeage due to which the coolant is coming out. What kind of APOXY or Glue i should use on it so that the same can bear the temprature of the raditor. Meaning i have used one of them which really melts when th eraditor gets hot.

Any suggestions on the above will be highly appreciated by all of you

Worm regards

Qamar

Plastic is very difficult to repair, especially when it is wet, hot and under pressure. Glue may or may not work, welding it would probably be a better solution. For some really good info on why and how to fix it correctly, look here http://urethanesupply.com/radiator.html . I just ordered a welder from them for a project I am working on. I did something stupid, a plastic part that I broke is no longer available from the manufacturer. [?|]

If you decide to buy this tool, do a web search. You can buy it from many web sites for around $125.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but did you break something on the 'Bird? What'd you break?

Yeah, the heater core needed replacing. There is a plastic mounting/retaining frame around the heater core. When I was installing the new core, I push a bit too hard and the 20 year old brittle plastic cracked. I went to the Pontiac dealer today, it has been out of stock permanently since 1998 (sounds like a common problem). I called several local and internet salvage yards (Billy Graham, CamaroLand, etc.), and all wanted to sell me only an entire 3rd gen F Body heater/duct/control box assembly for $100 - $125 plus $25 shipping.

There have been, and will be more times where plastic welding would be useful, so I decided to give it a shot.

I wanted to thank you for giving me some very valuable information on how to repair my subject car leaky raditor. I have followed your directions, and now its the second day in progress and there is not a single drop coming out of the repaired raditor.

I'm glad to hear that your radiator repair was successful. I received my plastic welding tool and successfully repaired the mounting frame that I broke. This is a great tool - I can see that I will have other uses for it in the future.

The picture below shows the welded seam. On the right is the rough weld, on the left is the weld after I cleaned it up with a Dremel tool. It seems to be as strong as the original plastic.
