How good of a car is the 328i 4 door? What kind of horsepower and mpg do they get? How reliable are they and how many miles is too many miles if I was looking at a used car? Any other opinions and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance. BB

328i has 193horsepower just 1 more than 325i but much more torque. Not sure about mpg because everything here is in kilometres and litres but a full tank (62 Litres) can last me just over 430kilometres, running on automatic transmission.

Under 70k miles would be a good find.

Before i put in the SC, i was getting an avg of 28 mpg for both city and highway. With the SC i have been getting 38 mpg on the highway and when i don't attempt to put my foot thru the floor.

Overall, i love my 328i.

Cheers,
Bill

What's an SC? I have a 98 328is and I get 19-20 in the city and 28-29 on the highway. Interesting that you go 28mpg for both city and highway.

Bill,

I am trying to understand your statement:
28 mpg average without SC
38 mpg with SC

How did SC increase the MPG so drastically (from 28 to 38 is drastic, percentage-wise).
May be I am missing something. With SC, you should be getting less MPG
(assuming evverything else is same). SC essentially forces more air in, resulting in more gasoline being consumed. If you don't mind, would you please explain...

thanks

SC @ 80-85mph averaged 20.10 mpg the last 2 days on my return from Michigan to Fort Worth. The cars computer continually projected 38 to 42.

My conclusion, When RMS did the reported "reprogramming" of the DME, they either did nothing, or they dorked up big time. [chair]

I am continually receiving fault codes pertaining to O2 sensor limits being exceeded. (I installed 4 new O2 sensors while in Detroit.) [rolleyes]

Will be contacting RMS tomorrow (Friday)[bash] . Overall performance of their product is disappointing. The vehicle, when pedal is fully depressed acts as if the throttle blade (butterfly) is being rotated fully closed, thus the vehicle lacks any power. In fact the engine wants to stall.

Will be inquiring as to remody. Am thinking of drilling and taping for a screw to put into the throttle body to stop the butterfly from fully closing. (If that is what is happening.)

What i thought was going to be a major improvement is so far............ a major disappointment.

If no fixes are recommended by RMS then i will have to resort to ingenuity to teach myself how to drive this "potential" beast.

2.5l = 189bhp
2.8l = 190bhp (later models 193, might be e46 only, not sure though)

I think US spec has lower horsepower than the rest-of-the-world spec. Like the M3s, you guys have there.

Here's the info I got. 2.5L & 2.8L on E36 & E46 have the same horsepower...

2.5l = 192
2.8l = 193

M3 3.0 (1993-1995) = 286
M3 3.2 (1995-1999) = 321
