Will I lose any performance if I choose the xi (all wheel drive) vs the i (rear drive), and all other things being the same (sport package, etc)? I will be in the market for a car in a couple months and don't want to make the wrong choice.
Depends on what you value. The xi via bmwusa.com has slightly more weight but slightly faster 0-60, due to the awd I assume [one tenth]. However, it's weight distribution [extra 150lbs+/-] and drive train loss will be slightly poorer vs the standard rwd car. If you need to use the car in winter weather, it's really a no brainer to me. If it's going to be a weekend car or used in more pleasant weather as well as endure more aggressive driving, I'd go for the standard rwd model. There are many 335i vs 335xi threads you can read using forumdig.com, an auto forum search engine.
