I am having problems when I down shift out of fifth on the freeway come back up to speed and try to put it back in fifth. The shifter is giving me quite a bit of resistance, but the problem is intermittent. Has anyone heard or experienced such a problem? If so, please advise a solution if any.

Thanks,

new fluid.... hmm... i guess i would check the linkage next if you would be able to get a good look at it. Most cars have plastic bushings to make a tight connection for all the different connections from the shifter to the tranny. There should be multiple connections. Check to see if any are significantly worn.

Finnaly I hope its not the syncronizor, just wanted to give you something else to check before you might take it in for serious repair (if its that bad....)

i agree with mjbst111

i think it's the syncronizor.

Small trick, just between fast changing the gears --> let come the clutch a second time between 4 th an 5th [thumb]

if it is the syncro, then the tranny would have to be taken apart to replace it $$$. But the whole tranny wouldn't be shot. They would probably replace the others while in there but generally they would give you a whole new one or rebuilt tranny. I don't think they actually service them.

Its really weird though that your 5th gear syncro would go first. It makes me a little skeptical. That why i suggested linkage before the syncro.

clutch linkage maybe? No probably not cause if it had anything to do with the clutch it should do it in all gears.
