750 il auto transmition

recently bought a 750 il 1989,nice motor but keep getting a message on the dash TRANS PROGRAM.
only have hand book and before i go to bm specialist would like some advice off real people.
any advice would be great

TRY TO DISCONECT BATTERY FOR 1 HOUR, MAYBE IT WILL RESET COMPUTER. AT LEAST IT DOESN'T COST

I have an 88 750IL. It had the same error message when I purchased it a few months ago. I found the problem was probably poor insulation on one of the wiring harnes'
(also the trans seemed to be stuck in third gear)
due to the price of repairs along with other possible problems I replaced the entire transmission. This seemed to fix the problem. however just yesterday it showed again. just minutes afterwards the display started showing what appeared to be crop circles now my the mileage temp fuel and readout will appear to work for a moment then do something wierd or just cut out. my car is however running and shifting fine so who knows.

a chronic problem in the v-12 cars is broken wires in the wiring harness due to heat..... i fought my car for 4 months before admitting defeat and taking it to a shop that works on bmws...... they thought it was a control module failure.... i told them when i took it in that i thought it was a wire issue.... when everything else tested ok they checked the pin voltages and found 2 bad wires..... they replaced the wires and it's fine now.... john

I have beaufor the same problem and , I chanage oil transmision, and chek axel fan from wather pump
