Lately, this has gotten pretty bad, when I start off anywhere my car sputters and hesitates really bad until I get up to around 20-30 mph...Then it stops...I was thinking this might be a spark plug, or spark plug wire? Any ideas? Thanks in advance....

check your plugs and make sure your valve cover gasket isn't leaking oil into the spark plug valley.also, try some fuel injector cleaner.the design of the m50 motor puts the injector above the intake valves, and when fuel is sprayed onto a hot valve, buildup will occur rather quickly.BMW recommends injector cleaner every now and again too.

I would suggest getting an injector cleaning. It is not that cheap, but the acidic spray from the can would clean things up. Also, check the fuel filter. A cloggef fuel filter can cause similar problems. Hope this helps as a starting point.

I have recently had a similar problem with my 92 325i. My car would stutter and stall while starting out quickly. Slow starts were fine and above 3000RPM the engine ran smooth, until you tried to accelerate. Then the engine would misfire and hesitate.

I have discovered that a common problem with the 1992 model year was the stationary injector coils by ZUNDSPULE were defective. A break on the secondary side of the coil caused rough idle and/or misfire under heavy engine load.

The defective coils can be identified by the date above the word "ZUNDSPULE", ie 91 M 01 year=91, month=January), any coil produced prior to this date could be defective.

You can diagnose a defective unit by removing the coil from the engine, twisting and pulling the spark plug connector (long rubber holder) and looking inside the coil for a green corrosion or broken pieces. If signs of either are present then a replacement is required $$$.

I replaced 2/6 (the others were replace sometime before I took ownership - Why?!?) which I bought from BMW. For a new BOSCH replacement I paid $130.00 CAD each.

Good Luck and I hope this cures your problems.

Check the little cheap things first. Also, run some heat in the gas tank if you are running cheap gas. Burns down the watered out low grade gas. Injector cleaner could help as well. Take baby steps and start with the cheap things first. Hopefully is something minor. Let us know how it turns out.

Sorry Scarface if I scared you. The replacement of my coils ONLY happened after an injector treatment, 6 new spark plugs, and a fuel filter replacement. The filter was a stab in the dark. The car felt like it wasn't recieving enough fuel (plugged) or the pump was dead (side note: try not to let your fuel run below 1/4 tank, as it is used to cool the pump). Then, and only then, did I preceed in buying the coils.

Sorry again for the heart attack.

Airlordz,

I did the work myself. It costs enough just to buy the parts. This stuff wasn't too difficult for someone with some tools, 1/2 a brain, and a Haynes/Chilton manual.

I hope we do MEET each other one day, RUNing into you would suck.

This ones for the Canadians out there,

Do you guys/girls know of any good BMW parts distributors in Western Canada, other than BMW themselves?

(hmmm wait...maybe I should post this in a new thread- see new thread)
