Hello,

I just bought my car a week ago.. 96 BMW 328i but the radio is disabled says "CODE WAIT." Went to BMW and got a code for it..I just don't know the correct procedure to put it in..anyone know how to input the code and make this radio work? It's a factory ALPINE unit. Thanks

Keep it powered for one hour

If you input the code wrong three times the radio disables itself until it is powered for one hour. After that you can input the code with no problem. Keep the code in a safe place as it will be required if you ever lose power to the radio.

Correct, you use the station buttons for the radio to input the code. On my radio that's buttons 1-6. You just hit the station buttons to correspond to the code and if you do it right the radio comes on after the last digit. If you do it wrong the radio beeps after the last digit is entered the display still reads "code"

Radio CoDE

I tried that..but the screen just said CODE WAIT the whole time...even after pressing the buttons nothing changed, no sounds or beeps. I guess i'll just have to take it to BMW:( also the A/C seems like it wants to turn on when it feels like..and shuts off then turns back on?

As far as the radio, it might have been tried prior to your attempts so it will not take a code number until it resets. A local repair shop told us with the radio on turn the key to the accessory position for 3-5 hours to and it will reset. After it is reset then it should take the code.
AC problem, my first guess is the auto temperature relay is tripping thinking that the car is at the temp you want it to be. Either a faulty setting or faulty relay?

I would take it back to the dealer.....they SHOULD be able to unlock it for you at no charge if they gave you the code.[;)]

My 2 1/2 year old likes playing with Dad's car and had managed to trip the radio so the code was needed. I tried unsucessfully a few mornings this week, he must have liked the beeping noise, so resetting was needed. Set the ignition to position 1 @ 1:00 PM left it there with the radio turned on saying "code". At 5:15 PM entered the code and the stations came back. [thumb]

VIN for the car. When I bought my car the small dealer, actually a neighbor that dabbles in great cars, that I bought it from had received the code from the nearest BMW dealer since the original card was lost.

Couple of things, requests like this from dealers work a whole lot better if you're a good looking female. My wife qualifies so she get's my dirty work like this. It's is also better if the good lookin' female makes a guest appearance at the dealership. Two reasons, you really can't tell how good looking someone is over the phone and the guys at the service desk are owed a chance to look. BTW if you really neeeed something it also has helped to get angry enough for tears.
The number either was processed by Sharpe Buick in Grand Rapids Michigan or the BMW dealer in Kalamazoo whose name escapes me, but if you do a search for Kalamazoo BMW you will most likely find it [:D]

Radio code

If you input the code three times wrong than the radio block itself for an hour. You can disconnect the battery, connect again and than try to input your code.

What you gonna do is turn of the radio. The volume switch off. Than you insert your keys and turn the ignition to the radio position, after that turn radio on.

Be shure not to press any button before inputing the code.

Now you can input your code like the numbers are going after the last number, you will hear a beep! and the radio will come back to life.

I hope I helped you.[thumb]
