Hello I was wondering if I could get some help on some things, I just bought this car (1997 BMW 328is) and I am looking to fix some small problems.

1. Check brakes (E-Brake is very loose)
My dad and I where going to take off the wheels and check the brakes, but it has one anti-theft bolt on each wheel... and the car didnt come with a socket to take it off with (unless it is hidden somewhere)

I tried my best with my pictures and this is what I got

The next question is, does anyone know if it has a seperate drum brake system in the rear for emergency brakes? My dad said that in Germany it is standard to have this is a back-up system.

2. Wheatherstripping
I knew when I bought this car that it wouldn't be like new, the only thing really noticable is that the wheatherstripping is kind of warn out, when driving it may whisle a little bit more then it should. I was thinking of replace it, can anyone give me some info in doing this (how to remove and where to buy)

3. I also came across this:

FIXED!

FIXED!
Should I just glew that back in or what should I do about that?

There is also this hook I found on the front seats that I wanted to know, what for!?

Its that somewhat rusted peice right beside the wheatherstripping...

I will be greatful for any information given. Thank you!

First welcome to the board!

If that is a BMW locking bolt than the socket should be in the trunk tool hit. If not your going to have to work to get that off. I would check with my local BMW shops, some have some of the key sockets lying around for their use.

Most of the BMW weatherstripping snaps or pops in place and is available through many suppliers like Pelican Parts, but keep in mind it is expensive.

The mirror attachment cover should also just pop into place. If the tabs have been broken off than just order a new one, they are not expensive.

I cannot really see the "rusted hook" but I am guessing that it is a floor mat tab?

Best of luck and again welcome!

The bolt is not what BMW uses right now so I would say best of luck with it :(. You can try forcing a socket over it and take it off that way (it can be done with those bolts).

The handbrake does have a separate drum system, it is right inside the hub that the rear wheel mounts to, to be more precises, the hub is the drum for it. If the you need to pull the handle too far to get it to engage, you can pull off the boot off the handle and adjust it using the two nuts that are on long bolts (one is for the right and the other for the left).

The rusted piece of metal looks very weird, I haven't seen that on my car and I have even pulled the entire carpet out once, it have something to do with manual seats (I have power seats) or it might just be something the previous owner lost.

With other stuff, either Big Daddy has already nailed it on the head or I can't really help you.

Good luck and welcome to the forum, keep us posted on the progress.

hey guys, fixed the problem with the peice that was like hangin down, just had to push it in... thank god! stupid me for not realizing that, but you know how it is with a new car, you dont want to break anything by using to much force.

Still don't know anything on this weatherstripping or that weird hook that i really find pointless!

the hook thing is for keeping the factory floor mats in place. My car also has it for the passenger side as well. The factory floor mats have a hole on each outboard corner into which this hooks fits in. None for the rear seats.

I was thinking that that was what the hook was for, but I don't think i have the factory floor matts anymore cuz i aint usin the hooks. Is it possible to take them out? There is like a round bolt that is holding it in place and it seem tricky to get out, unless its just a cover for the real bolt under it...

Thanks for the help so far!

I hope someone can help me out here... I took apart my cup holders and found out they where all busted up. Can anyone tell me where to find replacements?

eBay. Just be careful of some of the BMW used parts venders and make sure you get an exact year replacement. Some of these guys send the wrong year parts and then refuse to take them back. IE, I bought a glovebox for my 99 e36 and the guy sent an older model that did not fit, not only that, the tabs were broken off. Refused refund. I filed with eBay and Paypal and paypal told me to fax them an estimate on fixing it, but gave no email address to reply. How can you fix something that does not fit in the first place and has broken plastic tabs?????

Good luck
