ABS light is on, what to blame?

Hey,
My abs light is on, The guy who i bought the car from said it was a faulty ABS sensor, i wouldnt wanna spend 100$ on the sensor for nothing, is there a way to check the sensor?

Take the car to the dealer or another shop where they have SRS code reader. It will tell you if the sensor is deffective and will reset the light. If it comes back up - most likely the sensor problem. On mine it said bad sensor, but the light never came back on after reset, so I'm cool

My abs light comes on whenever it wants to there are days that it never comes on then days it comes on many times. What I mean is I can simply be driving and bam it turns on not when I use the brakes or take off just whenever it feels like it. Has anyone else ever experienced this

ABS WARNING LIGHT ON
MODELS AFFECTED: 3 series (E36) and Z3 produced up to 5/96
FAULT: The ABS warning lamp is on in the instrument cluster, and fault code 145 (pump inoperable)
stored in the ABS control module memory.
CAUSE: Faulty relays produced prior to may 1996.
SOLUTION: Use the DIS tester to confirm that fault code 145 is set in the ABS control unit. Work
through test instructions in DIS confirm that the fault is not caused by any other components. Then
replace the gray ABS pump motor relay, witch is located in the power distribution box, rear left side
of engine compartment.

and one more question, can i check the fault code from the OBC?

i tried that for some reason it doesnt work on my car, i checked on some other 94 325s and it worked fine. Im getting the code reader, it will just take 2weeks to ship.

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. Does your ABS work?
I have light on and P.O. says it's a broken speed sensor, so I must get it checked/replaced.
Just idle curiosity about your light being on and whether you have ABS working or not.
I am VERY used to lights going on, things working "sometimes" it seems like half the things I've owned in my lifetime needed to be "jigglled", or "rapped on" !!!!!
Let me know how you make out-I will let you know as my next fix is ABS-winter is coming !!!

it looks like my abs works fine, but still it would be nice to get the light off my dash board, it bothers me that its there ;>

Imagine how much it would bother you if abs didn't work, and you had to look at light ! It is my next fix! I've never had abs in winter-think I'll like it in slippery conditions.
Going studded snows on all 4 corners as well-I'll be ready. Now once I'm set all we'll get is 1/4 " snowfall that melts by 9:00- I can see it now! I'll drive for 5 months wearing out studs and tires like a few previous years!
I live on the Ct. shore, a lot of times it rains here, bur 20 miles inland it's snowing!!!
