sounds again like the control unit is gone. that's a common problem at E36 models. i had it myself. the lights got out and nothing works. no breeze nothing. just dead! i had to have the unit replaced. 250 bucks for the unit (i think it was that much). There are ways to try and fix it yourself. go to the archived forum and try a search. it might come up with some helpfull stuff.

ginoman....
the problem was the a/c would completely turn off randomly.it would run for a minute or two then completely shut down..the lights on the climate control computer would go dim right before it would shut down. i replaced the whole unit

AC Repair Info

Hi,

I am having trouble with my AC too. I get hot air even when the ac is off. When the AC is on I do get cold air but I cant really control the temprature. Looks like the controller is malfunctioning. COuld be some problems with the vents too. You mentioned you got instructions from a website on how to fix AC. Can you please send me the link too. I need to work on my ac before my wife starts telling me to get rid of the car..:( . I drive 735i.

cheers
