Could be lots of things. Is this a new development or has it always done this?

Could be low refrigerant charge, could be a worn compressor, could be a bad electric fan, could be a bad mechanical fan clutch.

Is your electric fan running when you turn on the A/C? If so, then it isn't the electric fan. What year is the car? If this is an originally R-12 car, then has the car been retrofitted to R-134a. If it has, then that can explain some inefficiencies of the A/C. How many miles on the car? Is it the original A/C compressor? Has the fan clutch ever been replaced? Is the engine running hotter than midpoint on the temperature gauge when idling but then cools down when driving?

We need more info to help you out!

Any auto parts store will sell you a kit. It will have a fitting to go on the compressor suction fitting near the firewall. You then run the compressor and look at the suction pressure on the guage..if it is in the "red" zone, it needs to be topped up with refridgerant...there should be a fitting on the hookup that allows you to screw a can of refridgerant onto it. Then slowly screw in the needle valve to puncture the can. Back off slightly, invert the can. You will be able to feel the stuff tranferring to the system...watch the guage, it will slowly pressure up the suction side with refridgerant, and it will "recharge " the system....The dealer used to charge me 175.00 for this. I did it myself the other day for 50.00....it took me 5 minutes and works fine....

First off 93' 325 i w/ 90K on it. At first I though t it was the electric fan, myself. After driving around I jumped out in a parking lot to check to see if the fan was moving it was.Talked to the girlfriend seems that that car was a little low last year and needed a charge. So I'm leaning towards that theoy myself. I guess I thought if it was low it would cold while driving too. I pray it not the compressor or the fan clutch as far as I now it is the orginal. As for overheating . No straight in the middle Replaced water pump thermostat, and serpentine 6 months ago. My friend as the gauages I just need to make it by there. It has been switched to 134a so I think I just need to check and fill the system. Any comments welcome. Thanks for the replys
