How often it should be changed? I got 83K on my 98 328is and not sure if air filter was ever changed, I bought it 4 months ago. I live in San Francisco so it's not dusty here at all. Also, any recommendations on air filter brand? Thanks in advance.

I put in a K&N recently, and I think it is a good thing. Car seemed to breathe a bit better. Of course, my last filter was kinda on the nasty side. If it's not dusty there, and you aren't looking for a miniscule power gain, go with the Mann or Mahle (OEM) stuff. Lot cheaper.

K&N takes less than a minute to pop in, same as replacing with a stock air filter, you have to clean them every 12-15K. They are well worth it!

If you haven't done it yet you should de-baffle your airbox also. If you don't know how do a search there is a ton of info on this. You will love the growl your car will make when your on the gas.

Is the stock filter cleanable? I might just clean it, it's raining for a week straight here so I have no chance to get my car outside and pop the hood to see that filter. I would prefer to keep my car stock so I don't think I'll do any de-baffling, I already like the way it sounds :)

Yeah, it's on my favorites also. I have printed off several jobs and done a few so far. That has got to be one of the best sites I have found. I have saved quite a bit of money by doing the jobs myself.

bmw555- stock airfilter is not reusable, but the K&N is. Also, you don't have to debaffle to use the K&N, just drop it in in place of the stock.
