Airbag light came on.....

Hi~ I have a 1998 328is, and two days ago, the red airbag light came on and it stays lit. The manual says that if it doesn't turn off, then something might be wrong with the airbag system.

Is there anyway to check it manually, and how to know which of the 4 (i think there's 4) airbags might be faulty. How do the mechanics check that?

If I just ignore it, it doesn't affect anything right? Like the airbag won't blow unexpectedly one day will it? Thanks for any input...

did u disconnect or remove any of the front seats? that will trigger the light as well.

either way- safest bet is to have the dealer will need to clear the code for you and do a quick check. if the airbag system is malfunctioning, u'll want to know about it. will cost about $60-$80 depending how snobby they are.

i believe the code clearing tool can be used to clear the code too. but, if there is a problem, the light will come back on again. the tool is like $100+ bucks from www.bavarianautosport.com i think.
