Airbag light

After having a faulty battery and replacing my alternator and a battery, I have an airbag light on. It came on while driving with a shorting battery that sucked all the alternator output into it, not giving enough juice to the rest of the car. Any idea why the airbag light is on and how to turn it off?

cut the wires. thats all i can think of. mine comes on every time i start the car, though no side affects which i think you hint at. i just ignore it, i don't care one bit. if it ever became a problem i'd cut the wires.

probably not the best solution, but oh well, i'll try to think something up for you.

You could purchase the reset tool for the airbag light (which includes Oil Service and Inspections resets.) The airbag light is a common prob. As long as it resets, no real fault exists.

dude my airbag light came on a while ago, and it was the sensor under the passenger seat. They are known to go up if you have a high milage car. It is very important that you get it fixed. DO NOT CUT THE WIRES!!!!! If you are to get into an accident your airbags are not going to deploy, because there is a fault registering in the system, so they are deactivated as of now. Take the car to the dealer and have them use their scan tool to determine if it was from a battery drain or if your sensor is bad. Since the airbag light is a saftey device a reset tool like the peake oil and service light reset tool weill not reset the airbag light. It must be done by the dealer. No one else can reset your airbag light. I know it sucks but you should bite the bullet and get it checked out at the dealer, if they tell you that it is a bad sensor I can give you a good one that I have, and you can jut pay for the shipping, cuz I don't need it and I am not sure if it is a good one or not, but if I give it to you it is better than having to pay $250 for a new one. So go get it checked out. If it was from your battery drain than they will reset/activate your airbag sensor. If the sensor truly is bad I'll send you out the one that I have for free if you give me like $5 for shipping. My email is [email protected] if you need any more info or have a question.

Thanks for your input, guys!

I went by the BMW repair shop today, they have hooked up the computer and reset the airbag light. It's off for now. Mein Ritt - I'll definitely accept your offer if the light comes back - the computer diagnosed it as a faulty passenger-seat sensor.

Now back to my ride [driving]

Your airbag light if the sensor is faulty will most likely go off again soon. If it doesn't go off then it was a fault in the computer just recognizing that somewhere a fault happend (battery drain) and in some way effect the airbag light so that their wouldn't be an accidental mischarge of the airbag. So it dissabled itself. So just leme know if you need the sensor, and i'll go and pull it out of my totaled m3. But again I am not 100% sure if it is still a good sensor. Thats why I will give it to you. The only reason I am not 100% sure is because when the car was totaled that driverside airbag deployed, and I am not sure if sensors are a one time use and then they go bad. But I don't think that they are. Well anyways just let me know.

MEIN RITT is right man I just had my light reset and the mechanic said if it cam back on it is the passenger sensor. It did come back on, so I'm bringing it in to get fixed. But my mechanic also said if the light is on the ENTIRE airbag system is OFF. If this is important to you take care of it. My guy said it would be about $100 - $150 to fix.
