AHHHHH!

Does anyone know of some secret key stroke or button combination, to get rid of the auto volume. (Volume gets louder when the car goes faster. and reverse when decelerate.)

This drives me crazy![?|] [bash]

PS, 330I w/preformance and nav.

It get loader when car gets faster?? Damn... that might explain why it is fun to speed in a BMW!![fake]

The only way you might be able to change (if ever) that is by re-programming the settings at the dealership.

actually, in my car below the air conditioning panel, where your heated seat buttons are... the one on the left to the far right there is a speaker... it would be turned on .. hit it again to turn it off

Took me a while to figure this out myself. In my 330xi there's a button with a musical note on it that's used to change Bass, Treble, Fade and Balance settings. If you push that button and hold it for a few seconds you get an option to set the speed/volume level. Raise it to increase the volume at higher speed, lower it for less speed sensitivity. Turn it off and your volume doesn't change no matter how fast you drive. I found that a big increase at speed is annoying, but a slight increase actually works quite nicely. Play with it and use whatever suits you.

That seems like a pretty smart feature. Whenever I merge onto the highway and I am going 70mph (previously at like 30mph), I find that I have to turn the volume up. But I guess that's because my Shitta has short gearing (engine screaming at 3,800rpm @ 70mph) and my aftermarket exhaust just increases the noise. [rolleyes]

This switch controls if the subs are on or not. It does not control the auto volume control. The raido can be adjusted to very the amount of change, from a range of 1 to 6 I believe, but can not be turned off.

I tried holding down the music symbol button and I am getting "FLAT" sign on display. I tried different keys but haven't figured out a way to change the settings.... how would you go about change the volume control?[confused]

Just tested it out to be sure. Hold the musical note button down for a few seconds. Then use the + and - buttons (on either side of the musical note button) to adjust speed volume up or down. Worked fine for me.

OK. Thanx for all the help. I went by the dealership and they showed me a back way into the system.

On the nav package:
If you hold down SEL. for ten seconds, you get the service menu.
Use the right or left arrow to scroll through the options.
scroll to DSP and use the #1 on the left side of the screen or the #2 to scroll up or down.

Same thing here on my 323ci with HK system and CD. When I hold the key down for a few seconds it just says FLAT.

If I hit the +/- keys on each side of the musical note key it doesn't adjust anything just goes back the clock.

I tried holding it down also and not letting go...didn't work.

What gives? Anyone?

It is simple as the others stated above.

The best thing to do is after you get your car, drive it, have a good time and get the new thing out of your systen then sit down and read the entire manual. Most is useless but the little you will pick up will help a lot.

found this on e46 fan site on their faq :

Q: How do I change the speed-sensitive volume control setting?
A: This feature allows you to decrease the speed sensitive volume with the HK system as well as put your radio in different country modes (such as Europe mode). This doesn't work on all radio options, but give it a shot:

On cars without NAV

First, don't be driving while doing this procedure.

Turn the radio off then on again. Dont touch any button except the 'm' button - the button you use to tune the radio frequency manually. Press and hold the 'm' button for TEN seconds or until the display changes. IIRC, it shows the serial number of the unit. Normally when you press 'm', the display will reflect that by replacing 'ST' (stereo tuning) with 'm'. When holding the 'm' button for this procedure, the display should not do this - you will continue to see 'ST' for the ten seconds.

Now if the display has changed, you are in a configure mode on the radio. If you press the '+' or '-' button you change modes. The mode you want will display as "GAL (1-6)". This mode allows you to adjust the speed-sensitive volume control. Use the radio preset buttons 1-6 to set the amount of volume change you want at speed. Setting 1 is the smallest change, 6 is the highest.

I use 1 with the windows closed, and 4 when it's a nice day and I drive with the windows open which makes for a lot of ambient noise at speed. The car is so quiet with the windows closed that setting 1 is plenty. On my car the default setting from the factory was 3 and it bugged me too.

Then turn the radio OFF to save the settings. Turn it back on and go for a drive to test it. The other semi-useful test mode will tell you the signal strength of any give station from 0 to 15 (highest). Use the preset buttons to change stations in the mode. This capability is probably used in the automatic tuning funtion in the radio

I was holding down the little musical note button instead of the *m* button...

Worked great for me....thanks for the tips. I never knew you could change it.....
anyone know what the other options are for on that menu. I remeber seeing a serial, GLA? GL? and some other stuff. I'm curious what each one does.
