hey guys, ok so now i have a racing dynamics CAI with heatshield, and a catback exhaust, i am thinking about getting a power programmer. What kind of hp gains will i get with al these put together? And also i just installed my exhaust, and i didnt notice that much difference, and i knwo its hard to get gains of hp and tq on an obdII. But will the exhaust change after it gets broken in? By the way i have a 96 328is. Thanks!!

It matters who you ask about the exhause question, but of course the companies claim a good 10+ HP gain on some applications. In reality i think they may only give you a few, and it shouldn't give more power with time(after being broken in)

you wont see much with just that. With the exhaust you are gonna loose torque, but gain power in the top end. The intake in these cars is adequate without major mods, but you will get a nice growl out of what you did, and again will help your hp in the upper RPMs. If you are looking to get a chip, get one from a reputible programer, someone who knows the car's systems. Have them negate your O2 sensors, then GUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS and if it is an auto, have them tighten up your shifts too. They will also do the typical chip stuff like messing with the A/F ratio, timing, etc., but just dont but one of those pre-programed, off-the-shelf chips, you will regret it. With all of that combined you are probably looking at a good 12-15 hp increase to the ground, depending on what you have for a tranny. Over all, you could probably get a good 18-20 increase in bhp (brake horsepower, taken at the crank, before the tranny).

And not having the baffle is a good thing, without it you get more power. The baffles are just there to keep the original probably snooty owners and their snooty neighbors happy, with a quiet exhaust.

Thanks Kev, so buying the power programmer from Bavauto isnt a good idea? I have a 5sp by the way. And i noticed right away when i put the exhaust on the tq was less, but did notice the hp around 4500 rpms and up was more.

I bought it new from a guy on ebay. Its a brand new Active autowerke exhaust with the Dtm tips. I paid around 350. And installed it myself. I fyou buy this exhaust from the compnay i think its around 680. For as the sounds, it has a deep low bass tone up to about 2800rpms, and then goes back to the stock sound, and then around 4800 rpms, the bass sound kicks in, then after that it goes to the stock sound. Overall i am very please.

I havent really looked into the programing available or the chip manufactures as my 325 is pre-OBD-II. I wish i knoew more so I could tell you more about what to look for, but as a rule, as far as the performance mods that I have done on some on my American cars, I never buy a pre-programmed chip. Since you have a stick its probably no as big of a deal, but thats just my thing, I like to have a say in what goes into my car.
