Hi

Lower control arms bushings! Definetly. But change also all the ball joints on the front end.

Brand new lower control arms are cheaper to buy than to replace the ball joints by itself.

Each lower control arm is around $95 that is a complete assembly with 2 ball joints including on each arm. And the most important part get a M3 bushings, because they are solid and don't wear out. the bushing are $114 in the dealer. Also change the tie rods assembly. After that get a good alignment and you are set.

Does also your steering wheel shake?

Thanks Beemerworld. No the steering wheel does not shake, its only that you are driving along on smooth road with no problem, and as soon as you hit a bad section of the road where the big Trucks have made some grooves and pot holes, the car is all over the road, but the stearing is still okay. Its weard because the car only has 55,000 kil on the omiter its still like new. you still think its lower control bushing.

possible without a doubt. as you mention the truck damages on the raod, i could imagine that due to the tire size the car tends to follow those lanes. that is indeed very disturbing but normal.the extend you feel it, the intensity however i can not judge as i don´t know how severe it would feel for me what you have there.

anyway, check the control arms anyway.

Lower arms.

Yes check the Lower control arms and the tie rods. My bushings and tie rods went out after 60000 miles.

The worst are probably the ball joints. Maybe somehow the rubber broked and water started to enter in to the ball joints causing rust a make the ball joint dry. So they don't oprate like they supposed to. The best thing is to lift the car and check for cracks on the rubbers which covers the ball joints.

If you grab the tie rod you should be able to turn it. If not there is a problem.

Usually the lower control arm bushing go bad. It is a known problem for E30, E36, E46.

Thanks for the help/Beemerworld & Wadula am going to have the Control arm checked.
Wadula:
But to answer your Question,Its not bad bad, the car just wonders all over the road, and it's like the car is controling it self,on the side streets it seem to run okay normally.
