i have a factory 6 cd changer in my E36 and for the life of me i can't figure out why it keeps spitting out the cartridge. i tried to keep a mental note when it does it and i noticed in acts up mostly in the summer time or it just has its moments. i opened it maybe a million times to eject the magazine and force the hung cd inside. anyone experience something like this before or know of a remedy? give a newb a chance.......

Same problem with my 1995 IC Fix New Cartridge. Three problems 1. the right guide on the cartridge worn 2. cd slots worn 3. Bad location for cd player. since I replace the cartridge not much of a problem only when you hit a bump. New Cartridge cost at the dealer $26.00.

I wired an iPod into mine. Works great! The mounting location is perfect (assuming you don't smoke). I wired it into a Clarion head unit, but Alpine has started making one that accepts the iPod dock connector. Check out this pic:

I put a strip of black "hook" velcro on the top of the ashtray, and two white squares of white "fuzzy" velcro on the top of the back of the iPod. The cup holders and change holder are still accessable (since you can swap around their location, which is super cool). The location is great because my arm rests right on the armrest, with my fingers in the exact spot for accessing the iPod buttons.

I take the iPod out whenever I leave the car, especially in winter when the cold weather really messes with the LCD.

My factory disc changer freaked out and died on me too. I agree on the recommended in dash - but it is difficult to find one that matches the interior nicely.

I have known several BMW owners who gave up on their malfunctioning BMW original disk changers.

Install an Alpine CHA-S634 changer in it's place you will need a Soundgate converter. That way you keep the stock radio (and it's look) and you get a changer that plays CD-R, CD-RW, and best of all MP3's (you can have 1200 songs).

guys, thanks for the help. i might stop by circuit city and pick up a new cartridge. i will never put a radio other than a BMW radio in my car. i like original things and as much as i like MP3 players, if i can't mount it in the trunk, i'm not doing it. thanks again for the help.

well i opened the POS again today and noticed that the solder points were cold joints. I retouched them with my nifty hakko soldering iron and i am currently testing again. i don't really know what to make of it but that $225 alpine CD changer that plays it all is looking mighty good these days. i will keep you guys updated on how its making out. oh, FYI....the cartridge was $42.00 at global imports in Atlanta.

oh my,
