I was drivng my friends 328is today and when i would accelerate hard it would produce a soft but def audible clicking sound, like the sound of a playing card against the spokes of a bike wheel as it was spining...it seems to be coming from the drivers side rear but i could be dead wrong on the location... do u think it could be octane pings from a bad batch of gas? ive driven this car countless times and have never heard this noise before and my friend also denies any known problems.

No its not octane pings, it could be something in the driveshaft, though you should mention its automatic or manual. Anyways, check the handbrake cables hanging near the shafts anywhere under the car, it was pretty common on 7-th series that cables were making mysterious noises shearing against mainshaft.
Come back and tell us what was the problem..

Damn clicking noise !!!!!!!!!!
I have a 1992 325I, Often I hear a really load clicking sound coming from the drivers side rear also. This happens when I get on the gas or when I am slowing down. Sometimes I can hear it when I am turning. I have had many mechanics look at my car and know one seems to be able to figure this one out except for one . It is a very clear CLICK,CLICK,CLICK,CLICK sound and some times it goes way and then comes back. Please help this is killing me. I was told that it is a rear CV joint going out on the rear axle. I am getting ready to replace it , but it is very expensive $300-$500. If anyone knows what this is, pleae help the both of us. I have checked for everything Rocks in the tire, brake cable, suspension, wheel bearings. i also have a post . search for me by user SPEEDRACER. Thanks

whatever it was it has stopped for now.

checked the tires... nothing there..but im pretty sure a stone on the tires couldnt have been that loud
and yes, it does get louder or rather it starts when the RPM climbs...didnt notice it when i gently accelerated....but def didnt hear it under braking... [???1]
