Climate control problems in my 1997 328ic (e36)

I am experiencing a bummer here. The unit will go dim, a/c compressor turns, rear fan on and no control of anything to do with the control. I had read of replacing the capacitor and was preparing for it by removing the clock and having a look. I took the clock out and as I touched the harness for the climate control, I could switch between normal operation and not. I now drive around with the clock removed and wiggle the harness as needed. Sometimes it goes normal right away and sometimes it takes more wiggling. I know this cannot be good for it. I have searched the circuit board for a crack where the harness connects but cannot get a great view of that section. Currently I am looking for another control unit to just try as to determine if that is the source of the problem.

Any one know anything regarding this problem?

If you own one, drive it hard!

Thanks vance, i had seen the fix link before which is why i was pulling the clock. It just is odd that I can push and pull on the harness and it all works again.....for a while. Didn't think a cap would act that way but a poor solder joint somewhere common might.

I'll post my results after the cap re&re.

PS, just got an 18 button OBC....no second harness, any thoughts where I might find one?
