lots of stuff flying around on the interweb regarding aftermarket filters

basically, any time a filter lets more air in, it has to let more "other stuff"
in...

now it varies wildly how much this "other stuff" hurts your engine in the
long run but in general it is accepted that u'll get a cool sound

u may even get a few hp

if u have a "ram" air intake make sure u have a heat shield around there

At advanced auto parts they had a demo of one of those K&N box shaped filters vs. reg. one. The K&N made the ball float up while the reg. one made it fall low because of the low air coming in. But now that u mention how they let more air in, they must also let that nasty stuff in too.

i've read articles from a few different websites, everyone has an opinion
on how much stuff comes in and just how much damage it does to the
motor...its also really hard to accurately measure....

in theory u'd have to have 2 identical motors, one with stock air filter
and one with aftermarket and then drive them identically for like 50,000
miles and see...

some people even say that after 50,000 u wouldnt see a differnece
