Hi,

I own a 96 e36 318is stick shift, lately Ive had problem when i start the car in the morning, when the engine is cold! The idle is not stable, it keeps dropping n i have to rev to keep the engine from switchin off.

Once the engine heats up, everything is back to normal.

Is this a problem with the Air mass meter? if so do i have to replace it or can i repair it?

Hope this wont cost me too much!!

Thanks for the input!

Cheers!

Well,I had the exact same problem for 2 winters!!!

After changing almost everything (ICV,AFM,DME,sensors for water temp and air temp, fly wheel sensor etc) I checked the fuel pressure regulator!

In my E36 320 it should be 3.0 bar (+-0,2)!And it was 3.7 bar (+-1,4)!!!! [B)]

Once I've changed it everything is fine!!!!It starts perfectly!! [burnout]

During my search I've discovered that there was a particular Technical Service Bulletin by BMW for car's that went to the States and were built previous than November 1994,that need the ECU upgraded!!

The symptom was a lot of fuel that caused the spark-plugs to get wet!Especially in temperatures betwwen -2 and 7 C!

So,check the fuel pressure! Also clean the AFM if you use an aftermarket air filter!

I hope I was of help!! [wave]
