Cheers all!

In the never ending story of Bluetooth compatibility for the new E60
I thought I'd share the below. Note: This is AFTER I purchased (then returned) a Nokia 6230.

- My Car = 2005 E60 w/build date of 9/04
- Told by dealer prod. date was too early to have Bluetooth
- Dealer WRONG = all 2005 E60 from 9/04 are Bluetooth enabled
- No additional software "update" required
- Nokia 6230 = paired but BMW acted only as a giant "speaker phone"
- 6230 = not integrated w/iDrive screen or steering wheel buttons
- Sony Ericsson T637 = FULLY compatible
- Paired in less than 30 seconds
- Integrated w/iDrive, steering wheel, stereo, mute, etc. FULLY
- No need to take to dealer for pairing or assistance
- Total cost = $109 for T637 w/ $70 rebate. Total exp. after = $39
- ZERO extra cost to have dealer "pair" phone w/car

I did have to switch from Verizon to Cingular - frankly I don't care since you can "port" numbers now. Cingular/AT&T = only provider offering Sony Ericsson T610, T616, T630 & T637 all of which are listed by BMW as being "compatible". The only down side = had to sign a 2yr contract w/Cingular (was not under contract w/Verizon).

Next quest = seeing if the BMW T616 cradle can accomodate the T637. If so I'm set! If not... I's still happy!

Cheers for now then!

Bluetooth and Verizon

Great info.! I am struggling with finding a Bluetooth phone that's compatible with my new 530i. After reading your posting, it became apparent that switching from Verizon to ATT/Cingular is the best option (although not the most cost-effective considering I just signed up for Verizon 2 months ago!). After conducting online research into this issue, it is clear that Verizon is not embracing Bluetooth Technology and will not likley do so in the foreseeable future. To this end, their Motorola V710 (only Bluetooth phone available) is not compatable with the BMR phone according to their own sales rep.

Advice to anyone else with Verizon and a new BMW Phone-Switch, don't fight!

iDriveGuy - were you able to determine if the BMW T616 cradle works with the T637? Did your car already have this cradle or were you looking to purchase it from BMW or someplace else? I asked my dealership if they had a cradle to accomadate the T637 for my 2005 525i and they said they had nothing. Would certainly be interested in anything you may have on this. Thanks!

Answeres to questions re: Bluetooth

Cheers All!

Indeed, why am I trying so hard to use the phone in my car??? Two reasons mainly: 1.) I use the phone seldomly in the car therefore making me a "non-expert" at driving with one hand while holding a phone to my face. The Bluetooth allows me to dial, accept, scroll phone book, top 8, etc. all with voice command or steering wheel buttons - therefore no "physical" distraction... Conversation distraction??? Well, that's another story. 2.) State and local laws are becoming stricter. It won't be long before phones will be "banned" while driving - by going to this effort I feel as though I am ahead of the "curve"...

As for Cradle: Purchased the BMW T610/T616 cradle - the T637 snaps in perfectly.
Cost = $156. The trouble now is obtaining the Bezel (i.e. eject Box FRAME) which the eject box attaches to then the 2 pieces (together) replace the "coin tray" mounted inside the center arm rest.

Working with "Gary" at Stevens Creek BMW in Santa Clara, CA. He's been most helpful - I just spoke with him today in fact. He is ordering the parts he thinks I need. When they arrive he wants me to bring in the eject box I have to see if it all "snaps together". If not, there is no charge to me. If so WHOHOO! And I can do the install myself. The additional parts needed run about the same price $150-ish. I'll post part Numbers once I know it works...

Cheers!

Bought June 2004 you should be OK for BT, but you need to look at the driver's door jam for a sticker indicating your build date. If you can't find it, ask you dealer to look it up for you. If the car was built after March 2004, you're OK to have BT activated, but you will likely need a software update to version 13.2 or higher I believe. Check with you dealer. Also go to www.e60.net and search for bluetooth info, there is lots of good information over there from guys who have had it set up in their 2004 cars.

Wow, this is interesting. Just about an hour ago, I was speaking to T-Mobile signing up for a new contract. Verizon only has two Bluetooth phones and I don't like either of them. Signed up for T-Mobile for a year and got the free Motorola V300 phone. Once I get the free V300 phone, I am going to purchase a Sony T637 phone and use that with my T-Mobile plan (I will my LG4600 Verizon phone and the free Motorola V300 T-Mobile phone). I want the Bluetooth from the Sony phone so I can use this:
http://www.driveblue.com/(vzhnlcvxegsguvnczstt0b45)/Default.aspx?root=driveblue
Just plug it into your cigarette lighter adapter and it wirelessly syncs with your Bluetooth phone. Acts as a speakerphone with "send" and "hangup" buttons on it, and voice activation for dialing contacts and stuff like that. You can purchase the Parrot DriveBlue for like $60 off of eBay (brand new).

More BT Integrated Phone Compatability

Good news! The Motorola V551 is compatible with the 2005 5-Series (Build 11/04) integrated phone! More good news: Verizon claims that the flash update for the Motorola V710 is now available and should enable BT for the BMW. On the downside, there are postings on bulletin boards that suggest that Verizon is having some problems with this long-awaited update. Stay tuned...

All of that is actually a part of the E60 so you don't need it. All you need is the phone with Bluetooth.
Yes but not all phones work with the car and too many people are having problems with it. Just look at the post above me.

The purpose of Bluetooth is that it is universal. Thanks to Verizon, Motorola, and whoever the hell decided to interfere, BMW does not support ANY Bluetooth phone the way it is supposed to...it has changed from a "You just need a Bluetooth phone to work with your BMW" to a "You can only use these specific Bluetooth phones to work with your BMW". Instead of waiting for BMW to solve your problems, which they probably won't because they don't care that much about their customers, there are plenty of aftermarket alternatives. Don't be afraid just because it doesn't come with the BMW roundel!!!!
