Can I use Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in my E36? When I jack the car, spin one rear wheel the other does not move. This means I have non litmited-slip, right?

I think u might have a limited slip diff. just do a burnout if both wheels spin,u have one.

no 328's came with limited slip. if it were a lsd both wheels would spin in the same direction.

On my 94, if you turn one wheel, the other spins in the opposite direction, this is what it should do from my experience.

I agree with Eric, unless someone changed it, you shouldn't have an LSD. Yes, you can put Mobile 1 gear lube in your diff.

To my knowledge you only got a Limited Slip Diff on the 'Sport' (UK models) or 'iS' (models in the USA). E.g 328i Sport / 328is.

(Edited - to mention I am not talking about the M3's although those have LSD's fitted as standard).

Otherwise you would simply have a conventional diff regardless if you car was a 320i or a 328i.

My UK spec 1997 328i Coupe has a conventional diff.

100% in the USA, 1996 and on the only 3's that came with an LSD were the M3's, the previous 1992-1995 325iS models came with an LSD.

that's interesting, what are your sources? Could it be a misprint in the BMW owner's manual?
