our 1993 525i had been running fine until yesterday, when it caught on fire, presumably started by an electrical malfunction (right before it happened the windows and sunroof stopped working).
I couldn't find any recalls on this model for electrical reasons.
Does anyone know if bmw would be willing to do something about the damage, based on claims or complaints they've heard of? I know and can attest to the fact that many bmws are prone to electrical problems.

I doubt it on a car that is 12 years old.

I have owned five BMW's and none have had electrical problems, I know that some 7 series have electrical gremilns, though I do not believe they have resulted in fires. The first thing you would need to know is what exactly caused the fire?

i wasn't there at the time, so we're still in the process of figuring out what started it...
out of the 5 bmws my family has owned, the 3 made before 2002 have all had major electrical problems, an e30, an e28, and now the e34....maybe we've just been unlucky
