e36 convertible top problems

I have a 318 convertible (96).
Manual top, worked fine till last week.
Unable to open the top anymore. The front of the top comes up to release the back of the top. The back of the top use to come up 90 degrees (or to a vertical position) to allow the plastic cover of the storage box to open up. now the backtop goes only to 60 or 70 degrees, It blocks the cover of the storage spac to open up.
Please help. Must be something not allowing the back of the top cover to come up in a vertical position.

Mine just started doing the exact same thing about a week ago. Before that it was working fine. I tried resetting the top but that did not do it either. Anyone know what can caused this or/and how to fix? Thanks in advance.
