ok.....i finally found a few M3's but.....i came home and talked to my dad about the insurance and it would pretty much be double. So i was thinking maybe i should get a 328is? Is the handling different? is the 40hp diff. noticible? Did they come out with 328's with vader interior? any information of comparrisons would be nice....thanks

get the m3 dude. i have the 328is and it totally kicks ass, but 190bhp vs. 240 bhp is a HUGE HUGE difference. and the insurance cost will not be much different

does the M3 have a different suspension? i really want the handling of an M3.
Yes, it has a different suspension. Aside from the engine/power difference, the brakes are better and the interior is also much better looking.

I have a 328i and love it....... but...... I think I'd grab the M3 because you are already starting with a car faster than I can hope for. I'm already looking at bolt-ons but I think it would have been cheaper to just start with the M3.

Well, I'm going to say the opposite of everybody else here.
Save your money, get the 328. As much as I love the M3, the US-spec. e36 M3 is nothing but a glorified 328.

The engine they put into the us M3's back then has nothing in common with the one (~330 hp) one they got elsewhere, it's basically a bored/stroked 325/8 engine with a more agressive cam.

The suspension isn't the same either, the us suspensin was made softer to acommodate the taste of the average "american driver" (people that drives towncars). It's only slightly more agressive than the sport package suspension on the 328.

Sure the M3 will be faster, but I don't think much enough to be worth the difference.
I guess it depends, make sure you actually call the insurance company and have them quote you on both cars before you make a decision.

Tokfan, i respect your opinion, but think you are soooo wrong. the m3, though softer than the euro-spec car, is so much more car than the 328iS. if you are going to mod your 328 whne you get it, then there is no point in buying it if you have the option to get an m3. 50bhp is a lot of power, 50bhp plus a completely different suspension, an lsd, better brakes, and a lot nicer seats. that alone is worth more than a couple grand. to tell you the truth my 328iS could be out the door as soon as next summer, and an e36 M3 sedan or if i get real crazy an e28 m5 will be in its place.
